Arkansas State Two-Way Player Kyler Carmack Joins Rebels Via Transfer Portal

The Rebels are adding a two-way player to combat their losses via the transfer portal.

One player said goodbye to Oxford Friday. Another said hello.

Arkansas State right-handed pitcher and outfielder Kyler Carmack announced his intent to transfer to Ole Miss Friday afternoon via his Twitter account. The 6-2 redshirt freshman entered the portal following a woeful season in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Red Wolves finished 20-31 overall with a 9-19 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Carmack, a native of Cabot, served as the team's best pitcher, posting a team-low 3.23 ERA with a 5-3 record.

In 69.2 innings of work, Carmack struck out 60 batters and walked 37. He also ranked top 10 in the league in opponent’s batting average (.242). His ERA ranked second among Sun Belt pitchers, trailing only Southern Miss' Tanner Hall.

At the plate, Carmack went 6-for-24 with four walks and two RBIs. He also smacked three doubles, scored three runs and posted a .250 batting average.

The Rebels are entering somewhat of a rebuilding offseason after losing several high-profile players to the transfer portal. Outfielder TJ McCants announced his intent to leave the program last month after hitting just .154 in SEC play.

On Friday, senior second baseman Peyton Chatagnier announced his decision to opt for the transfer portal following four seasons at Ole Miss. Chatagnier started every game at second base for the Rebels this past spring and has one more year of eligibility.

A contact hitter by trade, Chatagnier hit .261 with 10 home runs and 26 RBIs. A native of Cypress, Texas, the senior finishes his time in Oxford batting .265 with 31 homers and 127 RBIs across four seasons.

Other names who have departed the program include: outfielder Nathan Fink, catcher Will Plattner, right-handed pitcher Tommy Henninger, right-hander pitcher Matt Parenteau and right-handed pitcher Jordan Vera.
