Ole Miss Coach Mike Bianco Reaches Career Milestone With Win Over Memphis
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Mike Bianco moved up the list in total wins by an SEC head coach on Tuesday night as his team knocked off the Memphis Tigers 7-2 on the road.
Bianco now sits second all-time in wins among SEC head coaches with 871, passing Skip Bertman on Tuesday night. Ron Polk rests atop the list with 1,218 wins.
The Rebels coach played for and coached under Bertman at LSU before becoming a head coach in his own right. Polk now is the lone man above Bianco on this list with wins accumulated with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Georgia Bulldogs.
Ole Miss scratched across two runs in the first inning on Tuesday night followed by one in the third and a four-spot in the fourth. Kemp Alderman led the team in RBIs with three, and Jacob Gonzalez, Garrett Wood, Anthony Calarco and Reagan Burford all drove home one apiece.
Ole Miss' biggest inning at the plate came via a double from Gonzalez (1 RBI), a single from Alderman (2 RBI) and a bases-loaded walk from Burford (1 RBI).
Tuesday also marked the best start of the season for right-handed freshman Grayson Saunier, working five innings complete and allowing just one run and two walks. He was relieved on the mound by Sam Tookoian, Cole Ketchum and Braydon Jones in the latter innings.
The Rebels now sit with a 17-11 overall record, and they will look to improve their SEC mark of 1-8 this weekend when they play host to the Arkansas Razorbacks. That series is set to begin at Swayze Field on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
