Rebels Lefty Hunter Elliott Scratched From Weekend Start Due to 'Forearm Tightness'
OXFORD, Miss. -- Following the No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels' 11-3 win on Tuesday, Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco informed the media that ace Hunter Elliott would not make his typical weekend start against the Maryland Terrapins on Friday.
Bianco stated that Elliott felt "forearm tightness" following his start against the Delaware Blue Hens last weekend and has since received an MRI on Monday. Below is Bianco's full quote on Elliott's status from Tuesday night.
"After Friday's start, Hunter felt some tightness in his forearm, which is concerning. It's not normal for him. He felt it again on Sunday. Threw, though, and it felt okay. No soreness throwing. Threw again on Monday, but, precautionary, we had an MRI taken Monday afternoon and still really don't have the results yet. Sent the MRI off to several orthopedics and are getting information over the next couple of days to kind of find out what the plan of attack is. But because, having the MRI, we think it's in the best interest that he doesn't throw this weekend."
Bianco went on to state that junior right-hander Jack Dougherty will start in Elliott's place on Friday afternoon when Ole Miss hosts Maryland. Grayson Saunier and Xavier Rivas will make their typical Saturday and Sunday starts this weekend.
In his first start of the season, Elliott, a sophomore out of Tupelo (Miss.) High School went 5.0 innings, surrendering three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine.
The Rebels and Terrapins are scheduled to begin play on Friday at 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
