Rebels Outfielder Ethan Groff Announces Intention To 'Run It Back' With Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. -- Monday turned out to be a good 24 hours for the Ole Miss Rebels on the baseball diamond.
Not only did the Rebels gain two valuable pieces out of the transfer portal, but one of their most productive players from last season announced his intention to remain in Oxford for another year. Outfielder Ethan Groff announced his intention to "run it back" with his college team in 2024 on Twitter.
Groff is originally from Orlando, Fla., and he suited up for the Tulane Green Wave before joining the Ole Miss roster as a transfer last season. In 2023, Groff hit .272 with six home runs and 16 stolen bases, but he also provided a spark on defense. In the outfield, Groff only committed one error in his 53 games played, good for a .993 fielding percentage.
Groff and others will play a vital role in Ole Miss potentially righting the ship after failing to reach the SEC or NCAA Tournament in 2023 after winning the national championship the year prior. After the disappointing season in Oxford, Rebels athletic director Keith Carter elected not to roll over head coach Mike Bianco's contract, and the honeymoon phase of winning it all has likely come to an end at Swayze Field, making Groff's retention on the roster even more crucial.
