Kermit Davis Believes He Can Still Turn Ole Miss Basketball Program Around
OXFORD, Miss. -- The basketball season for the Ole Miss Rebels has been, at times, disastrous in terms of wins and losses, but head coach Kermit Davis still believes that he is the man for the job.
In media availability following the Rebels' 64-61 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, Davis was asked if he still believed he could be the one to turn this program around, both this season and in the future.
“I do, no question about it,” Davis said. “No doubt. We’ve been a really inept team at home. I apologize to our fans for that. We’ve had no telling how many games just like this, and that is on me. I don’t think there’s any question about it, but, right now, we’re not putting a product out on the floor that we need to put. We have to keep getting better."
Some of Davis' hopes hinged on a win in Saturday's game, something that the Rebels failed to accomplish despite holding a lead at halftime.
“Like I said, win today and we would’ve had good momentum going to Florida but we didn’t get it done. All you can do is go back to the gym. Take Sunday off, go to work Monday and give us the best shot at Florida on Wednesday.”
The Rebels will take the floor against the Florida Gators in Gainesville on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
