Rebels' Chris Beard Explains 'Next Game Approach' Amid Three-Game Skid
OXFORD, Miss. -- Following a tough but promising first month of Southeastern Conference play, the Ole Miss Rebels men's basketball finds itself in a small hole halfway through February.
The Rebels (18-6, 5-6 SEC) have not won a game of hoops since January, and while the ship is not exactly sinking, Saturday night's home game versus the Missouri Tigers feels like a must-win for Chris Beard's squad. During his Thursday press conference, Beard commented on Ole Miss' ongoing skid, and expressed how he has handled the losing streak.
"This isn't coaching speak - I wouldn't even know that we were on a three-game skid, just like I wouldn't know if we'd won three games in a row," Beard told reporters. "It really is a next game approach around here. You just get back to work and control what you can control.
'More Consistency!' Chris Beard Reveals Defensive Formula During Ole Miss' Losing Streak
"I don't spend a lot of time talking about last game, the last three games, or upcoming games. It's all about today and executing our process. I feel like if we do that, the outcome will be where it needs to be and when we reach the point that we deserve to win these games."
It is a good practice to keep your head where your feet are, and Beard is confident that ideology will help his team weather the storm they are sitting in. The Rebels will get a chance to put the train back on the tracks on Saturday night when they welcome Missouri to the Sandy and John Black Pavilion. The Tigers are sitting dead last in the SEC with an 8-16 overall record and are winless in conference play entering their matchup with Ole Miss.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
