Ole Miss Using Auburn Lure to Target Another Tigers Decommit
The Ole Miss Rebels continue using their newfound Auburn Tiger connections to their advantage in the recruiting game.
Auburn has had its fair share of losses this offseason for both current and future talent along with a key departure on the coaching staff. The Tigers' losses have already directly benefited the Rebels and coach Chris Beard, as former Auburn assistant Wes Flanigan and his son Allen will rep Ole Miss next season both on the bench and the court.
Wes' help even aided the Rebels in locking in an official visit with Auburn de-commit and 2024 Kell (Marietta, GA.) center Peyton Marshall, who made the OV on June 1.
And now, the pattern could be continuing.
The Rebels have caught the eye of 2024 four-star Baker (Mobile, Ala.) guard Labaron Philon, another Auburn de-commit who admitted to On3 he’s got a strong connection with Coach Flanigan and will make a trip to Oxford at some point soon.
“(Flanigan) has recruited me since I was in the 9th or 10th grade,” Philon said. “He’s a good a guy. He’s never told me any lies. He kept it real every time we talked. We talk about things outside of basketball and building that relationship with him is very special.”
Already possessing a long-standing relationship with Flanigan, Philon continues to be in the process of building his chemistry with Beard as well.
“He left (Auburn) and went to Ole Miss with Chris Beard, who is a good coach,” Philon said. “I’ve talked to coach Beard a lot. He feels like he has the tools to help me become a pro. I think I will visit Ole Miss but I don’t have a date yet. I’ll see them at some point.”
If Ole Miss were to land both Marshall and Philon, athletic director Keith Carter might soon have to change the men’s basketball program name to the Auburn Rebels.
