Ex-Ole Miss RB Zach Evans Receives 2023 All-Rookie Team Projection
OXFORD, Miss. -- Former Ole Miss Rebels running back Zach Evans has earned extra press since he signed his NFL rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. The same day, the NFL released projections for the 2023 All-Rookie Team, and Evans was listed as the second running back behind Atlanta Falcons tailback Bijan Robinson.
Experts are beginning to believe Evans has the potential to make an immediate impact on Sean McVay's offense if he is given the opportunity. Evans was selected with the 215th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Rams after spending one year at Ole Miss where he split carries with Quinshon Judkins.
In his first and only season in Oxford, Evans rushed for 936 yards and nine touchdowns on 144 attempts, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. The former Rebel also showcased his receiving ability, recording 12 receptions for 119 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Considering 13 other running backs were drafted ahead of him, it is clear Evans is expected to flourish in Los Angeles as long as he can get on the field. The only obstacle in Evans' way is the veteran talent in his position group.
Drafted:
Round 6, No. 215 overall
Cam Akers has definitely experienced ups and downs during his career with the Rams. If injury or inconsistent play from Akers creates an opportunity for Evans, I expect the rookie sixth-rounder to attack rushing lanes with his powerful yet agile north-south running.
Cam Akers has shown flashes during his three-year career, but he has also been inconsistent at times, and injuries have hampered him throughout his young career. If Akers were to miss time due to injury or get in a slump, it would allow Evans to prove why the Rams traded up for him at the end of this year's draft.
Entering his first NFL training camp, Evans will be competing for a roster spot with Akers, Sony Michel, Kyren Williams, and Ronnie Rivers.
Below are the projections for the 2023 All-Rookie offense.
