Lane Kiffin Reveals Recruiting Strategy Ahead of Next Transfer Portal Window
OXFORD, Miss. -- The "Portal King" is always looking for new talent.
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin admitted as much about himself on Tuesday in media availability following his team's spring practice session, but he also revealed some specifics about his approach in the upcoming transfer portal window.
"Probably defensively with the new scheme," Kiffin said. "Maybe some new pieces that worked in different areas before that don't work in this new scheme that we maybe need to go get."
Although Kiffin has been hailed for his prowess bringing talent to Ole Miss in the transfer portal, that game is a two-way street. Players can join your program, yes, but they can also leave it.
That is an aspect of this new world of college football that Kiffin works to guard against.
"Everybody thinks that's good because you're going to go get pieces," Kiffin said. "You lose some pieces as well. You can go add, but you've got to worry about what you lose, too."
Kiffin's quarterback room became one of the most interesting in the sport this offseason with the addition of pieces from the transfer portal. Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State) and Walker Howard (LSU) both joined the Rebels out of the portal to compete against incumbent starter Jaxson Dart this spring.
Now as that situation evolves, Kiffin still doesn't plan to rest when it comes to wooing transfers to his program. Not anytime soon.
