2024 Ole Miss Commit Demond Williams Draws Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson Comps
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ever since 2024 four-star quarterback Demond Williams announced his commitment to the Ole Miss Rebels in January, the talented prospect has become one of the hottest names in next year's recruitment class.
Williams now holds close to 30 offers, with the Auburn Tigers, Purdue Boilermakers, and BYU Cougars all offering the Chandler, Ariz., native after he committed to the Rebels. Williams has kept his pledge to Ole Miss despite the attention he has gained this spring and early summer. Williams turned heads when he participated in the Oxford Regional of the Elite 11 in May. For his performance, Williams earned a spot in the Elite 11 Finals, which will be held in Los Angeles, June 14-16.
Williams may be undersized at 5-11, and roughly 180-pounds, but the athleticism he brings to the table makes his game "top-tier electric," according to On3.
“To say [Williams is] dynamic or athletic is an understatement," On3 said of Ole Miss' 2024 commit. "He’s top-tier electric when it comes to the quarterback position. He’s creative and he’s a playmaker.
“Ideally, you would love a little bit bigger stature,” On3 said. “Maybe a taller player. I think he’s listed at 5-11, close to the 170, 175 range in terms of weight. However, the film is just flat-out fun. He’s one of those guys you just turn the tape on and sort of just sit there and enjoy it for a little bit.
"[Williams is] a dynamic player who can create something out of nothing," On3 said. "That’s one of the most valuable traits you can have as a collegiate signal-caller.”
With his frame, Williams also received favorable next-level comps to a few all-time great quarterbacks in modern college football.
"Demond could translate closer to a guy like Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson strictly from an athleticism standpoint," On3 said.
While his size may be more comparable to former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young, Williams does not quite possess the arm talent that Young did coming out of high school. On3 cited that Williams does, however, have Young beat when it comes to "home-run speed."
“The stature checks out, (as does) the ability to throw from multiple arm angles,” On3 said of the Young comparison. “The distinct comparison between the two is the overall arm talent and arm strength. The ability to push the ball down the field and throw an effective deep ball, Bryce Young checks that box more than Demond Williams. However, Bryce Young can escape and maneuver the pocket. Demond Williams has legit home-run speed."
Williams is the third-highest-ranked commit in Ole Miss' 2024 signing class and is rated as the No. 16 quarterback in the cycle and the No. 6 recruit in the state of Arizona, according to On3. The Rebels currently hold the No. 21 overall recruiting class in the country.
