Ole Miss Rebels vs. Auburn Tigers Opening Betting Odds Released
OXFORD, Miss. -- Coming off a much-needed bye week, the No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels (5-1, 2-1 SEC) are set to hit the road in Week 8 to take on the Auburn Tigers (3-3, 0-3 SEC). The Rebels are looking to pick up their third consecutive SEC victory on Saturday, while the Tigers will be trying to pick up their very first conference win of the season.
The early betting odds for the SEC West matchup were released on Sunday by FanDuel, and according to oddsmakers, Ole Miss opens as a seven-point favorite on the road, with the over/under set at 55.5.
The Rebels are favored, but it should be noted that they have historically had a hard time beating Auburn, and have had an even harder time winning in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Since the turn of the century, Ole Miss has only beaten Auburn on The Plains twice (2003 and 2015). The Tigers lead the all-time series versus the Rebels with a record of 34-11. Ole Miss beat the Tigers 48-34 in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium last year.
On top of it all, former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze is in the middle of his first season at the helm of Auburn's football program, and you can bet he has had this matchup circled on his calendar ever since he got hired. Freeze coached the Rebels from 2012-16 before he resigned in July 2017 due to a pattern that included phone calls to a number associated with a female escort service
Freeze last battled the Rebels in 2021 while coaching the Liberty Flames and lost to Ole Miss 27-14 in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Kickoff between Ole Miss and Auburn is set for 6 p.m. CT Saturday on ESPN.
