OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels bolstered their tight end room this offseason with the commitment of transfer Caden Prieskorn, and the former Memphis Tiger is ready to become a reliable player on and off the field.

Prieskorn has only been in Oxford for eight months, but the senior has already been named to the leadership council for the Ole Miss football team. Prieskorn was available to speak with the media on Monday and explained why being a leader is important to him.

"After walking on at Memphis as a quarterback and working my way up, I just feel like I had to do everything right to get where I am today," Prieskorn told reporters. "I'm one of those people who like to lead by example, so I always do the right thing on and off the field."

After quickly assuming a leadership role on the Ole Miss offense, Prieskorn was asked about the depth of his position group and had good things to say about his unit, specifically sophomores Hudson Wolfe and Kyirin Heath.

"[Hudson's] had his battles in the past with injuries, but he's had a great camp," Prieskorn said. "He's helped push me, as an older guy, just to stay on top of my stuff every day. Kyirin Heath's had a wonderful camp as well. He's shown a lot as a young guy. Both [Wolfe and Heath] have done really well in camp and have shown a lot."

Wolfe did not appear in any games in 2022, while Heath earned playing time in all 13 games at both tight end and special teams. Both players are expected to provide key depth in Ole Miss' tight end room this season.

Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins has received a great deal of hype this offseason after leading the SEC in rushing as a true freshman in 2022. Prieskorn talked about what it is like getting to see a player of Judkins' caliber every day in practice.

"It's awesome just seeing how much he loves football," Prieskorn said. "He'll do it all. Earlier in practice, he was the lead blocker on a sweep play and it's great to see his unselfishness. He has all this attention on him and all these awards but he's still a good person. He's just a different human being."

Entering the 2023 season, Prieskorn and fellow Ole Miss tight end Michael Trigg were both named to the John Mackey Award preseason watch list. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football. In 2022 with Memphis, Prieskorn hauled in 48 receptions for 602 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, all career highs.
