Ole Miss Rebels Favorites to Land 2024 Four-Star Safety Damian Thompson

The recruitment train is not slowing down anytime soon for Ole Miss.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels landed two big commitments on Saturday, and another one could be on the horizon. According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Rebels are favorites to land 2024 four-star safety Damian Thompson, as they currently possess 79.6 percent of expert predictions.

Thompson is rated as the No. 29 safety in the 2024 cycle and the No. 21 recruit in the state of Alabama. Ole Miss offered Thompson in January, joining eight other programs vying for the talented safety.

The Florence, Ala., native has been offered by Ole Miss, the Georgia Bulldogs, North Alabama Lions, Memphis Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Penn State Nittany Lions, Louisville Cardinals, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Michigan State Spartans. The Rebels, however, are in a strong position to land Thompson's commitment, per On3.

“I’m thinking about Ole Miss right now,” Thompson told On3. “But I’m not too sure. They just make me feel really welcomed and like I’m actually wanted... That I’m not just here to take another spot and just be a number.”

On top of being one of the best safeties in the 2024 cycle, Thompson also contributes as a receiver on offense and occasionally returns kicks and punts on special teams. Thompson boasts the versatility to be a playmaker at all three phases of the game, one of the main reasons why multiple programs are trying to earn his pledge. New safeties coach, Wes Neighbors, is Ole Miss' primary recruiter of Thompson, and the 6-foot-0, 170-pound prospect spoke about his relationship with Neighbors.

“We’ve been talking a good bit back and forth,” Thompson said. “(Our) relationship is pretty good. He came down to my old school a little bit and talked to me."

A decision is not on the horizon for Thompson, however, as he still has his senior year of high school on his mind.

"Hopefully I can become Player of the Year again and maybe win another state championship," Thompson said.
