Daijahn Anthony's Huge Hit Forces Fumble, Leads To Ole Miss Rebels TD
Ole Miss Rebels safety Daijahn Anthony laid the wood on LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels late in the first quarter.
Anthony's crushing pop knocked Daniels back a few yards but, more importantly, jarred the ball loose. Safety Trey Washington pounced on the ball on Ole Miss' 29-yard line, bringing LSU's eight-play, 30-yard drive to a screeching halt for the Rebels' fourth fumble recovery of the season.
"Holy guacamole," color commentator Robert Griffin III said on the ESPN broadcast. "Get that man some milk."
Griffin's words rang true because Anthony laid one of the hardest pops on a ball-carrier by a Rebels defender this season.
Daniels had dropped back on third-and-8, and, with no open receivers, decided to take off and run. He evaded three would-be tackles from defensive tackle Stephon Wynn Jr., cornerback Zamari Walton and Washington, but Anthony didn't miss.
Not only did the play prevent what could have been a field goal make — as the Tigers would have had a 38-yard attempt from kicker Damian Ramos — but it energized the Rebels' sideline, as players were jumping up and down on the sideline.
More importantly, it injected some life into the offense. Ole Miss' offense needed just three plays after that to take a 14-0 lead, as running back Ulysses Bentley IV carried a 43-yard tote to the end zone for six.
So far this season, Ole Miss has scored on four of its five drives following a turnover, resulting in a total of 20 points off of takeaways.
