Former Ole Miss CB Davison Igbinosun Transfers To Big Ten Program
Ole Miss Rebels cornerback Davison Igbinosun has found a new home.
Igbinosun announced his intent to transfer to Ohio State for the 2023 season via his Twitter account Tuesday afternoon. He will have three years of eligibility left and was considered one of the top names in the transfer portal during the latest cycle.
A 6-2, 185-pound defensive back from Union, N.J., Igbinosun played in 10 games for the Rebels last season. He recorded 37 total tackles and five pass breakups. His best game came against then-No. 7 Kentucky when he recorded a career-high eight tackles, including two for losses.
Igbinosun chose the Buckeyes after visiting the program on Saturday. Initially, Tennessee was expected to be the front-runner for the defensive back's pledge but eventually moved down the list after further visits. Igbinosun also visited Michigan and UCLA before making his final decision.
The former top-ranked cornerback in the state of New Jersey will now battle it out with Jordan Hancock, Jyaire Brown and the rest of Ohio State’s cornerbacks to start opposite Denzel Burke in 2023. Burke, a 6-1, 190-pound sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., finished with a team-high 12 pass deflections to go along with 38 tackles.
With Igbinosun departing for Columbus, the Rebels will need to upgrade on the outside at cornerback. Denatre Prince is expected to be back for Ole Miss, but Miles Battle (Utah) and Kyndrich Breedlove (Colorado) both entered the portal following an 8-5 finish.
The Rebels did pick up the commitment of former Georgia Tech defensive back Zamari Walton earlier this month. A four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets, Walton tallied 123 total tackles, 17 passes defended, three interceptions, one sack, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in 42 career games.
