Former Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore Picked As Potential Breakout Candidate in 2023
The New York Jets traded former Ole Miss Rebels wide receiver Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns March 22.
After his first two seasons in the league with New York, Moore caught 80 passes for 984 yards and six touchdowns, adding a score on the ground in his rookie year.
Ahead of year three in the NFL and getting a fresh start with a new team, The Score's Jordan Schultz has the Fort Lauderdale, FL. native as one of 10 wide receivers that are primed for a breakout in 2023.
"Candidly: I love the fit," Schultz wrote. "Cleveland's a blue-collar town and the AFC North matches that ethos. Moore's a tough, rugged dude who plays bigger than he is. Simply put, his football mentality fits in perfectly here. As Watson looks to return to his Pro Bowl form of 2018-2020, the former Ole Miss receiver should have a terrific and immediate impact on the Dawg Pound."
During his time at Ole Miss, the former three-star recruit in the class of 2018 blossomed into one of the best pass-catchers in Rebels program history.
In three seasons, Moore racked up 189 receptions, 2,441 yards and 16 touchdowns which rank tied for third, fourth and tied for sixth, respectively, in school history.
His junior season was one of the greatest for a pass-catcher in Oxford, hauling in 86 passes for 1,193 yards and eight scores. That would be an impressive year for a 12-game season, but Moore gathered those totals in eight due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In seven of the eight games, Moore had at least 10 catches, while eclipsing the 200-yard mark in three contests.
He hasn't had the ability to build momentum in the NFL, getting injured in his rookie season while also have a revolving door at quarterback in New York.
"Moore's getting a dramatic QB upgrade from Zach Wilson to Deshaun Watson, so expect big things from the third-year pro and former Jet," Schultz wrote. "Flanking four-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper, Moore's capacity to play inside and execute bubbles - plus his sensational short-area quickness - provide the Browns with a new skill set that I fully expect head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt to take advantage of."
