The Ole Miss Rebels have a new general manager running the show in Oxford, and they officially welcomed him to the fold on Friday.

According to ESPN, fifth-year Rebels coach Lane Kiffin hired Billy Glasscock as the Rebels' new GM. Glasscock heads to Oxford after three years working on Steve Sarkisian's staff at Texas, and you can view Ole Miss' welcome post on social media below.

Prior to joining the Longhorns, Glassock held support staff roles at programs like NC State and the University of Minnesota. Glassock will take over for Austin Thomas, who held the position for the last two seasons. Thomas reportedly is returning to LSU to join Brian Kelly's staff.

Glasscock started his career as a coach in junior college with stints at Arizona Western and Joliet Junior College. He'd later be promoted to recruiting operations assistant and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northern Illinois in 2009.

In 2011, Glasscock joined then-head coach Jerry Kill at Minnesota to serve as the Director of Recruiting Operations. After Kill's departure, he would leave for Raliegh to work under Dave Doren.

Glasscock's hiring marks the third GM under Kiffin's tenure. When hired from Florida Atlantic back in 2020, Kiffin hired Matt Lindsey as his first general manager, and he viewed the position as one that would oversee a lot of the support staff and "other stuff."

The general manager role has become essential in a day and age where the transfer portal and NIL reign supreme. As more attention turns to roster construction via the portal, the need for general managers with a history in scouting continues to grow.

Ole Miss excelled in the portal once more this offseason, but Texas feasted after making the College Football Playoff last year. The Longhorns secured commitments from top players, including UTSA EDGE Trey Moore, Clemson defensive back Andrew Makuba, Alabama receiver Isaiah Bond, and Oregon State receiver Silas Bolden.

The Rebels finished the 2023 season with an 11-2 record and a victory over Penn State in the Peach Bowl. In the process, Ole Miss secured its first 11-win season in program history.
