OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels defense stepped up big time during their Week 2 victory over the Tulane Green Wave, and one of the heroes of the game was made available to speak with the media on Monday to talk about his efforts last Saturday.

Ole Miss defensive end Jared Ivey iced the game for the Rebels when he found the endzone on a 26-yard fumble return which was forced by linebacker Khari Coleman. Ivey put the game out of reach for Tulane and capped off arguably his best game in a Rebel uniform, where he recorded three tackles, one sack, and one TFL.

Ivey talked about scoring his first collegiate touchdown on Monday.

"It was great, we call it a thick six," Ivey told reporters while laughing. "It was a great feeling. I haven't walked across that solid white line in a long time so I'm very blessed."

Ivey spent his first two seasons playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets before electing to transfer to Ole Miss ahead of the 2022 season. The former four-star recruit out of Suwanee, Ga., appears to have started a pipeline from downtown Atlanta to Oxford, as former Yellow Jacket defenders Zamari Walton and Akelo Stone both decided to transfer to Ole Miss during the 2023 offseason.

Ivey discussed how he played a part in recruiting via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason.

"Yeah [Walton and Stone] and Jam [Griffin] as well, I just told them about my experience and how the transition was smooth," Ivey said. "I talked about how the guys took me in and how the scheme is really fitting on both sides of the ball for anybody who wants to come and compete right away... They ended up making a little pipeline so I'm very excited about that."

As a Georgia Tech transfer, Ivey opened up about facing his former team for the second year in a row. The Rebels shut out the Yellow Jackets on the road in 2022 42-0.

"You try to just play like its a regular game but obviously there's connections and old [friends] and coaches," Ivey said. "It was super fun to play against all the guys and see them after the game last year so it'll be a good one."

Ole Miss is set to host Georgia Tech at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
