'Not Going There Again': Lane Kiffin Gives Indirect Response When Asked About Texas A&M Aggies Vacancy
OXFORD, Miss. -- It has been a rough weekend for the Ole Miss Rebels, as the team got dismantled by the Georgia Bulldogs 52-17 on Saturday night, and then woke up the next morning to speculations that haunted the program in 2022.
The Texas A&M Aggies fired coach Jimbo Fisher on Sunday morning in the middle of his sixth season in College Station, and Lane Kiffin's name was immediately thrown into the lists of potential coaching candidates.
This is deja vu for Ole Miss fans, as Kiffin was considered a candidate for the Auburn Tigers' vacancy during the 2022 season. The possibility of him leaving for The Plains in the offseason arguably played a significant role in Ole Miss finishing the year 8-5 after starting 7-0. Kiffin did not directly address the matter with the team until the final week of the regular season.
Kiffin was asked to comment on being listed as a possible candidate to take over at Texas A&M, and he once again indirectly addressed the topic.
"I’m not going there again," Kiffin told reporters. "I should’ve been prepared for that question, I wasn’t. I’m not answering that... We got back in here late and been in here watching that disaster film [from UGA], worrying about or own problems. I’ve not paid any attention to (Fisher's firing)."
Kiffin rightfully sounds focused on his team finishing the season with 10 wins, but it would not hurt for him to just say 'I'm not leaving.'
Kiffin and the Rebels have now turned their attention to the ULM Warhawks, who they will welcome to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday in Ole Miss' final home game of the season. Game time is set for 11 a.m. CT and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
