Ole Miss Rebels Look Unrecognizable in Blowout Loss to Georgia, But Can Still Finish Strong

The Ole Miss Rebels got stomped by the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night, but still have plenty to play for this season despite falling out of playoff contention.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Saturday night did not go well for the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss got destroyed by the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs 52-17 on the road in the Rebels' first game allowing 50+ points since their 2020 matchup versus the LSU Tigers.

The Rebels were not favored and would have had to play their first complete game of the 2023 season if they wanted to go blow for blow with Georgia. Unfortunately, both sides of the ball looked lost and outgunned by Georgia's talented roster. The Ole Miss offense showed up in the first quarter, as the Rebels scored first and managed to put together a few good drives, but the defense got pulverized the entire game.

Georgia kept its foot on the gas all night and did not give the Rebels a chance to breathe on defense. As soon as the offense fell out of rhythm, it was curtains for Ole Miss. The Rebels recorded 180 yards of total offense in the first quarter and then proceeded to register a humbling 14 yards of offense in the second quarter.

It is hard to be angry, however, as the Rebels do not have the talent that Georgia possesses and are still working towards becoming an "elite" college football program. The loss eliminates whatever small chances Ole Miss had at making the playoffs, but the Rebels still have plenty to play for this season.

Ole Miss has a great shot at securing its second 10-win season in three years for the first time in program history if the Rebels can take care of business versus the ULM Warhawks and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

If you asked an Ole Miss fan at the beginning of the 2023 season if they would take 10 wins against the hardest schedule in the SEC, I'm confident their answer would be yes every time.
