Ole Miss Rebels OL Micah Pettus Named to Outland Trophy Preseason Watchlist
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels sophomore offensive tackle Micah Pettus was named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List on Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America.
The Outland Trophy is the third-oldest major award in college football and is annually bestowed upon the best lineman in the country from both sides of the ball. Pettus and 91 other linemen were named to the preseason watchlist. The Madison, Ala., native is one of 17 linemen from the Southeastern Conference to make the list.
In 2022, Pettus appeared in all 13 games for the Rebels and started in nine of those contests as a Redshirt freshman. The 6-foot-7, 360-pound people mover has become an anchor on an Ole Miss offensive line which helped open up running lanes for the No. 1 rushing attack in the SEC at 256.6 yards per game last season.
For his efforts in 2022, Pettus was named a third-team Freshman All-American by College Football Network. Pettus earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors in his first career start versus the No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats by helping Ole Miss secure a 22-19 victory at home.
Entering the 2023 season, Pettus has been named a fourth-team Preseason All-American by Phil Steele as well as a Preseason All-SEC selection by both Phil Steele (second team) and Athlon (fourth team).
The winner of the 2023 Outland Trophy will be revealed during The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN in December.
