The upcoming Ole Miss Rebels football season will be a unique one. And as far as problems go, coach Lane Kiffin has a doozy on his hands. But it's a good problem to have and one that most programs would like to be confronted with.

The Rebels have maybe the most stacked quarterback room in college football. And for the second time in his tenure in Oxford, Kiffin has a bonafide quarterback controversy on his hands.

With four scholarshiped signal callers in Jaxson Dart, Spencer Sanders, Walker Howard and Austin Simmons on the roster, the problem is, only one can be the starter, and Kiffin has yet to announce who will be under center in Week 1.

Sanders has some thoughts on the upcoming challenge:

“Yeah, I would definitely give Jaxson (the) advantage. He’s been in the offense for a while. He knows the ins and outs…all (Kiffin) talks about is effort and a lot of those guys out there give great effort. You know, Jaxson (and) Walker, they're great,” Sanders said in first press conference as a Rebel. “They’re great guys. But I’d say as much as just advantage-wise I’d give it to two, really over me and Walker just because obviously he’s been here. But I mean we’re quarterbacks, we have to adapt. We have to learn new playbooks. So, it’s our job.”

Sanders realizes that the real battle will begin in August when fall camp starts, and with his experience, he should feel confident in his chances to win the starting job. The former Oklahoma State signal-caller started 41 games in the Big 12 and appears to be poised about his approach.

“I’m always confident in myself, money’s on me every time. I just have to have that confidence, hold myself to high standards and we’ll get there. You know, take it one step at a time. You can’t just try and gather everything in one, one step. So, we’re going to take the little steps, and little steps take care of the big steps,” Sanders related.

Whoever is under center come September, Kiffin will have made a tough decision, and have options to fall back on before the transfer portal comes into play.
