'They'll Give us a Fight, But We'll Fight Harder': Rebels' Quincy McGee on Tulane Matchup
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels offensive line was in full control of the trenches last Saturday versus the Mercer Bears, as Lane Kiffin's squad totaled 667 yards in Week 1.
Despite the performance, offensive lineman Quincy McGee knows there are areas the unit can improve upon heading into their matchup versus the No. 24 Tulane Green Wave in Week 2. McGee voiced his opinions during his media availability on Tuesday.
"I feel like we need to improve our run game a little bit more this week," McGee told reporters. "And just the basic gameplan. Everything we do at practice, we want to bring it to the game."
The Rebels threw for 524 passing yards while only rushing for 143 yards versus Mercer. Ole Miss will run the ball more as the season progresses, however, and McGee's wish might be granted sooner rather than later.
McGee previewed Tulane's defense during his presser.
"[Tulane's] defensive line is pretty good," McGee said. "You can't overlook anybody, any opponent you're playing. Everybody wakes up and plays football just like we do... I feel like their whole defense is pretty good. They'll give us a fight, but we'll fight harder."
Kiffin and assistant coach John Garrison rotated multiple players in and out along the offensive line versus Mercer, and McGee was asked about how the unit graded out after watching film.
"It was pretty good," McGee said. "We have a lot of offensive linemen that we can rotate throughout the game so we can stay fresh, which keeps both our pass and run game great. That's what I love about the offensive line we have."
McGee was asked if he knew whether or not he was starting versus Tulane.
"We just go out to practice and go with whatever group we roll with. Whatever [the coaches] say, whatever group is up, I'm rolling with it."
After spending the last two seasons with the UAB Blazers, McGee transferred to Ole Miss this offseason. The senior started in 12 games at right guard for the Blazers. McGee gave his thoughts on his debut with Ole Miss.
"It was a great experience running into Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with the packed crowd," McGee said. "It was everything I expected it to be."
McGee explained why he chose to transfer to Ole Miss and mentioned that he has family ties to the football team.
"After I hit the portal coach [Schoonover] hit me up," McGee said. "Ole Miss has always been a dream school since I was young so I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
"It all started with my cousin Donte Moncrief. I've been coming to games since I was little. I always saw the experience, and I wanted to be a part of it."
McGee is now officially a part of it, serving as a key piece in Ole Miss' offensive line rotation.
