Jackson Powers-Johnson has Dominant Showing in Senior Bowl Practice
Jackson Powers-Johnson had a dominant showing this week during practices for the 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
The National team coaches put Powers-Johnson at center for most of day one which is where the 2023 Rimmington Trophy winner is at his best. He also got the chance to work in at guard for some drills and reps.
What really stood out from the one-on-one drills was Powers-Johnson’s ability to recover when it initially seemed he was beaten off the line.
Former Duke standout DeWayne Carter went up against Powers-Johnson for most of his one-on-one reps at center and wasn’t able to get past the Oregon center. On one rep Carter got off the quickly and swim moved past Powers-Johnson, for a moment it looked as if the defensive lineman won the rep, but Powers-Johnson recovered and pancaked Carter.
Powers-Johnson was expected to do well in his reps at center, so his exceptional reps at guard really made him look good as teams wanting to draft him will not only get a center but an interior linemen that can play guard on both sides of the line.
He won all of reps at center and guard showcasing his pass blocking abilities, agility, strength and nimble feet among other traits.
During Powers-Johnson’s guard reps, he shut down Ohio State defensive lineman Michael Hall Jr. who was winning reps everywhere except when he went against the Oregon center. It was a short week for the former Oregon center in Mobile though, as a tweaked hamstring cut things short and it looks like he'll be out to avoid further injury.
The Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday Saturday February 3 and features four other Oregon Ducks alongside Powers-Johnson with quarterback Bo Nix, defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus, cornerback Khyree Jackson and safety Evan Williams.
