Jestin Jacobs Healthy, Junior Angilau Limited in Start of Oregon Spring Football

Two of Oregon's top transfer portal additions are on opposite ends of the health spectrum early in spring football.
In this story:

The Oregon Ducks kicked off spring practice this week and were able to do so with a pretty healthy roster.

Quarterback Bo Nix, the team's star offensive playmaker, appears to be back at full health after battling through an ankle injury in the final three games of 2022.

Oregon was able to add 10 players from the transfer portal this offseason, and every one of them except for former Ole Miss safety Tysheem Johnson has enrolled.

On Saturday Dan Lanning provided an update on two new Ducks who suffered season-ending injuries at their previous stops.

"Junior's limited," the Oregon head coach said. "Jestin's been able to do really everything with us come spring ball."

Texas offensive line transfer Junior Angilau suffered a knee injury last August that caused him to miss the entire 2022 season.

He's slated to be a key contributor on A'lique Terry's new-look offensive line next season and appears to be best suited at either left or right guard, standing at 6'6" and weighing more than 300 pounds.

Angilau started in every game for the Longhorns in the three seasons leading up to his injury and he'll inject a veteran presence into Oregon's offensive line room--one that lost four starters from a season ago in Alex Forsyth, T.J. Bass, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu and Ryan Walk.

Iowa transfer linebacker Jestin Jacobs suffered a "soft-tissue" injury during the 2022 season. He was able to return to action for the Hawkeyes after missing the next two games, but against Rutgers the injury worsened, causing him to have season-ending surgery.

It's great news for Oregon that Jacobs is a full-go in spring practice because he's slated to be the new face of the linebacker corps. That linebacker corps loses Noah Sewell to the NFL Draft after he spent three years with the Ducks in Eugene.

Jacobs was listed in 2022 at 6'4", 220 pounds and has been praised for his athleticism, speed and coverage ability at the linebacker spot. Oregon's defense struggled to cover the middle of the field last season and Jacobs should be a plug-and-play starter after generating buzz as a top NFL Draft prospect in college football ahead of the 2023 season.
