Oregon Offensive Coordinator Will Stein Named Finalist for Broyles Award
Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Will Stein has been named a finalist for the 2023 Broyles Award, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced on Monday.
Stein is one of five finalists for the award recognizing the top assistant coach in college football.
He's joined by Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker, LSU offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore.
Stein is one of only two Oregon coaches to ever be named a Broyles Award finalist, along with offensive coordinator Gary Crowton, who was named a finalist in 2005. Oregon's offensive coordinator is in just his first season with Dan Lanning and the Ducks, having joined the staff from UTSA during the offseason to replace Kenny Dillingham, who became the head coach at Arizona State.
Under Stein, Oregon's offense leads college football in passing yards (351.4 YPG), completion percentage (78.3%), sacks allowed (5), first downs per game (27.3) and scrimmage plays of 10-plus yards (229).
Oregon also ranks No. 2 nationally in a variety of other categories including scoring offense (45.3 PPG), total offense (540.3 YPG), total yards per play (7.85), and fewest turnovers (6).
Stein has also coached quarterback Bo Nix to a phenomenal season that has him in contention for the Heisman Trophy, leading the country in both passing yards per game (325.5 YPG) and completion percentage (78.6%).
But Nix isn't the only high-profile player on Oregon's offense.
Wide receiver Troy Franklin has broken numerous school records this year en route to being named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the nation's most outstanding receiver. Running backs Jordan James and Bucky Irving have both rushed for 10 touchdowns, with Irving eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight season.
The winner of the Broyles Award will be announced at the Broyles Award ceremony on Tuesday, December 5 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
