Former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota Signing With Philadelphia Eagles
Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota is on the move.
Mariota is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report from NFL Network's Adam Shefter.
Mariota signed a one-year deal worth $5 million. The deal is worth up for $8 million, Shefter reports. Mariota will serve as the primary backup to quarterback Jalen Hurts, who established himself as one of the best overall quarterbacks in the NFL last season.
The Eagles, led by head coach Nick Sirianni, are coming off of a 14-3 season in 2022. They wrapped up the year with a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII (57).
It's hard to think of a better landing spot for the former Ducks quarterback, who was released by the Atlanta Falcons this offseason after leading them to a 7-10 overall record. He started in 13 games and threw for 2,219 yards and 15 touchdowns before being benched in favor of rookie Desmond Ridder.
Now he'll serve as the primary backup on one of the most loaded offenses in the entire league. If he's called upon he'll have players like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott to help him put up points in Philadelphia.
The latest move for Mariota could mark the end of his days as a starting NFL quarterback after previous stints with the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders prior to the 2022 season.
