CLASS IMPACT: Kamar Mothudi Commits to Oregon
Oregon landed another important commitment on Tuesday in 2024 Los Alamitos (Calif.) linebacker Kamar Mothudi.
He's the second linebacker to join the Ducks this recruiting cycle, picking the Ducks over Michigan State, Washington and others.
We're breaking this commitment down from all angles.
Recruiting impact
This was a big win for Oregon on the trail, even if it was one that was pretty easy to see coming, dating back to my prediction in March.
Michigan State made a big push for Mothudi near the end, but I think once Dylan Williams committed to Oregon it was a done deal. The two never publicly said that were a package deal, but the "Bash Brothers", as they're known on the 7on7 circuit, are close friends and will reunite in Eugene
Dan Lanning and the coaching staff continue to identify and fill positions of need this cycle and linebacker was certainly one of them. With two talented commits in the fold now, their attention turns to Conroe (Tex.) Oak Ridge linebacker Justin Williams and Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt.
Williams is effectively down to Oregon and Georgia, while Platt has named a top two of Oregon and Oklahoma. Two commits in the last week for Oregon have helped lessen the sting of losing out on Elijah Rushing and the 2024 class is quickly filling up with a handful of elite targets still on the board.
Evaluation
Mothudi is a well-rounded linebacker, who's got a college-ready frame at 6'3", 230 pounds.
He moves incredibly well, particularly sideline-to-sideline and shares a lot of similarities with his counterpart Dylan Williams. The trait that stands out the most to me with Mothudi is his athleticism.
It's not too often that you find a linebacker that also excels at running back and Mothudi is one of those guys that can do it all. What's even better is that he can maintain a high level of play at linebacker while taking carries.
He has a solid football IQ and that helps him be in the right place at the right time, racking up tackles every game.
Roster Outlook at Oregon
I've spoken previously about how Oregon's depth at linebacker isn't great, so it may sound repetitive, but I think Mothudi is another player that could see the field sooner rather than later upon enrolling.
Jestin Jacobs is likely off to the NFL and if I had to guess, Jeffrey Bassa will likely be back in 2024. It still remains to be seen how well Jamal Hill and Connor Soelle will fit in the 2023 defense, but they're other names to watch at the position in addition to true freshman Jerry Mixon.
