CLASS IMPACT: WR Dillon Gresham Commits to Oregon

Breaking down the latest commitment for Oregon in the 2024 recruiting class.
In this story:

Oregon recruiting is on fire following the commitment of four-star 2024 San Jacinto (Calif.) wide receiver Dillon Gresham on Monday.

He's the third wide receiver to commit to Junior Adams and we're breaking down what his commitment means for the Ducks.

Recruiting Impact

Oregon was able to beat out Pac-12 foes Washington and Arizona for another explosive wide receiver, which is great because it means they won't have to play against him once he gets to the college level.

His commitment helps the Ducks continue to build some serious momentum on the recruiting trail, as they've now landed three commitments in as many days.

Junior Adams has put together the best wide receiver haul on the West Coast this cycle, as Gresham joins Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark. This staff continues to prioritize the Southern California talent hotbed and likely aren't finished in 2024.

The Ducks' latest commitment was under-recruited and I'm surprised his prolific 90-catch, 2,000-yard junior year didn't generate more buzz. That's fine with Oregon though, because they took the chance and now he's a Duck.

Evaluation

I called in a bit of an assist here from Gresham's head football coach Aric Galliano at San Jacinto. I asked him what people need to know about his star wide receiver and what makes him special.

"Playmaker. When the ball's in his hands he does a lot of good things. He's usually full speed by his second or third step and he's able to break cushion. Great hands. Knows how to read zones and find the holes and he just does a good job of running his routes. Breaking in and out, all the things that he's gonna get worked on by coach Adams and Coach Lanning up there in Oregon. We're excited to see how he grows."

Continued: Gresham's speed definitely makes him special but he's also got good ball skills and is a humble competitor. His speed is easily the trait that makes him special, but there are other skills in his tool belt that make him more than just a pure speedster.

Roster Outlook at Oregon

The Ducks are slated to likely at least lose Troy Franklin after the 2023 season and they're making it a priority to add weapons that can fill the void after his departure.

Gresham might be the fastest of the three wide receivers committed to Oregon in the 2024 class, and that's evidenced by the tape and by the numbers he put up as a junior. He may not be quite as technically polished as the other two wide receivers but he's a serious playmaker that could find his way onto the field if he adds more weight to his 6-foot, 175-pound frame.

The Ducks only signed two high school wide receivers in the 2023 class but the room is still crowded thanks to transfer portal additions from Gary Bryant Jr.Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden
