Da'Jaun Riggs, 3-Star Running Back Commits to Oregon Ducks
Carlos Locklyn has been flying under the radar as a recruiter in the 2024 cycle.
After signing a pair of backs in '23 in Dante Dowdell (MS) and Jayden Limar (WA), Oregon's running backs coach is ready to make some noise.
On Monday, 2024 Washington, D.C. St. John's running back Da'Jaun Riggs announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks.
The 5-foot-10, 199 pound-back chose the Ducks over competing offers from the likes of Pitt, Minnesota and Wisconsin among others. As a junior in 2022, Riggs ran for 962 yards and 15 touchdowns on 118 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per carry (according to MaxPreps).
He also pitched in 165 receiving yards on 17 catches out of the backfield and in the slot.
Riggs is rated a three-star (0.8726) recruit by the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 768 player nationally, the No. 58 running back and the No. 4 recruit in Washington, D.C.
Oregon's newest commit is the second St. John's player to commit to the Ducks in as many cycles, as Demetrice Martin signed defensive back Collin Gill from St. John's in the 2023 recruiting class.
Riggs' commitment also makes him the latest member of Oregon's growing pipeline into the DMV area, as he joins Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy standout quarterback Michael Van Buren and All-American cornerback Ify Obidegwu in Oregon's 2024 recruiting class.
The addition of Riggs brings Oregon's 2024 class to 18 verbal commitments and they maintain their rankings of No. 8 nationally and No. 2 in the Pac-12 behind the USC Trojans (No. 5 according to 247Sports).
Now Oregon will continue to recruit Nate Frazier from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei and likely Jason Brown Jr. from Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea in the 2024 recruiting class. Looking at the big picture, attention now turns to 2024 Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic five-star EDGE Elijah Rushing, who is set to announce his college commitment on Thursday July 6 from a final group of Oregon, Arizona, Notre Dame and Tennessee.
