Four-Star WR Aaron Butler Previews Oregon Visit
Oregon's wide receiver recruiting is already off to a hot start in 2024 with verbal commitments from Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark.
But Junior Adams still has his sights set on some elite talent.
2024 Calabasas (Calif.) wide receiver Aaron Butler has Oregon in his top five schools along with Colorado, Alabama, Georgia and Washington.
He'll head to Eugene on Thursday and stay there through the weekend. Before he heads North he previewed the trip with Ducks Digest.
"It's gonna be a great trip, a great time sitting there talking with Coach Lanning," Butler siad. "He says I'm his guy, says I'm a priority so it's gonna be great to just be in front of him, talk to him and sit down and see the whole staff again and pick up the whole vibe, go through everything."
He's excited for his first chance to meet new offensive coordinator Will Stein.
"I've never met Coach Stein but we've had some of the greatest conversations I've had with a coach, me and Coach Stein. Talking about football, talking about speed guys and things he wants to do with me. I can't wait to meet him."
What has made those conversations so special is a shared vision for him in the Oregon offense.
"I feel like he sees the game from the same eye I see it in a way. He wants three receivers for over a thousand--four! We talked about it. Like four of 'em could go let's do it. You want to throw the ball 450 times? Let's do it.
"That's the type of coach he is and I love that. When you got four receivers and you put them in that position I could be a first round pick. You're giving me a chance to be great. So it's just the opportunity and that's what Coach Stein presents."
Butler visited Colorado in March and the Buffs made a massive impression.
"I went to Colorado and had a great time out there with Prime and everybody," he said. "The coaching staff is different. The way they recruit is different. The vibe when you're there, the energy, they flipped the whole culture."
Sanders played with Butler's father Robb-Davon Butler in the NFL and that could give the Buffs an edge.
"What gives them a big push is my dad playing with Deion. Having that connection. He's gonna push you to do it to the best of your ability. I want to be in the Hall of Fame so if I tell Coach Prime I want to be in the Hall of Fame that's all he needs. Them three years he's gonna make sure he does everything he can to put me in position to get there and that's different. You can trust coach Prime."
Following his upcoming trip to Oregon he'll be turning his attention to upcoming official visits.
"I'm going back to Colorado April 22 for an OV," he said. "Georgia is April 14 for the OV. No date set for the OV for Bama yet but it is coming 100%. Nick Saban, we've had great conversations and Alabama is on my mind heavy so I gotta go out there sit down and have that talk with him."
The four-star wideout is set for a busy next month on the recruiting trail and a decision isn't far off.
"We're gonna wrap it up by the time summer comes around for sure. It's gonna happen within these next three months."
Butler intends to enroll early at his school of choice.
