Jonah Williams, 5-Star Safety, Previews Oregon Ducks Visit
Oregon is gearing up for their biggest recruiting weekend of the season and Galveston (Tex.) Ball safety Jonah Williams is among the headliners on a growing visitor list.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defensive back was in Eugene for the Colorado game earlier this season, which played a role in him making this return trip.
"I wanted to take this visit because my first visit was just amazing and both my parents really love Eugene," he told Ducks Digest. "So they wanted to go back up there one last time before the season's over."
Oregon dominated the Buffs en route to a 42-6 win and Williams reflected on what made the trip so special."
"Just the atmosphere. The facilities, the coaching, the players. Everything was great."
The coaching staff in Eugene, highlighted by safeties coach Chris Hampton and Assistant Director of Player Personnel Brian Bachman, have been consistent in their approach and continue to build solid relationships with Williams.
"The relationships are very very strong with the Oregon staff," he said. "They talk to me every day. They're always trying to build a better bond."
Oregon has made a name for themselves recruiting in the state of Texas and a number of things stand out most to the elite defensive back.
"Just the style of their defense. Coach (Dan) Lanning has a great defensive scheme that they run and I really like it. I'd say I fit really well in the defensive scheme so that's always a good thing for a recruiter."
Williams just released a top 12, which included Oregon, but he's already mulling over cutting his list again.
"I'd say I'm narrowing down my options," he said of where he's at in his recruitment. "I just dropped my top 12. I feel like it's gonna shorten here pretty soon."
Aside from daily contact with Oregon, a trio of other schools are on him the hardest.
"Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Ohio State."
He doesn't have a decision timeline, but does have an idea of what he's looking for in a school.
"Just a great college," Williams said. "A place that feels like home."
The elite prospect from the Lone Star State offered more on the other schools he's hearing from.
Texas A&M Aggies
"Coach (TJ) Rushing is just a great coach. He's always staying in contact. Asking me how my wellbeing is. Just steady on the recruiting process."
Ohio State Buckeyes
"The hospitality they showed me when I was up there a couple weekends ago was just great. I think it's a school that I could really fit in."
Oklahoma Sooners
"That I'll get early playing time and they've been on me since day one about recruiting. Just always showing love. Day in and day out."
Williams doesn't have any other trips scheduled at the moment, but does have a pair of schools he'd like to see in the future.
"I'm gonna try to go to Tennesse. Try to get back to Texas too."
