The Oregon Ducks 2024 recruiting class is off to a strong start with five verbal commitments. One of the class headliners is Newport Beach (Calif.) Newport Harbor wide receiver Jordan Anderson

Ducks Digest hit the road to check in with Anderson and get the latest.

The six-foot, 170-pound wideout checked out of Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan and is now enrolled at Newport Harbor. He discussed what went into his decision.

"I checked out Newport Harbor last year, looked them up on YouTube. Their offense, very explosive. They like fast guys. I wanted to go somewhere where the offense was wide open, the quarterback was decent, could just get me the ball and let me do what I do in space."

The Southern California standout committed to Dan Lanning's Oregon program in December and explained why the Ducks were the choice.

"My relationship with coach Junior Adams," he said. "The plan they got for me when I step on campus. I got a couple of good friends up there that's on the football team as well. It's just really family up there."

SIGNEE SPOTLIGHT: Oregon safety Kodi DeCambra

What is Oregon's plan for him when he gets to college?

"Really come in and grind. Earn a starting spot like they say. Move around from the slot and the outside, be a three man guy and go to the league."

Anderson is capable of making plays all over the field and is confident in the direction of the offense under new offensive coordinator Will Stein.

"I talked to coach Will Stein maybe once or twice when he made his move over to Oregon. So when I get down there I'm gonna check out the offense. He was putting up some good numbers from what I saw from where he came from.

"I think I would feel real good in that offense. There's a couple of playmakers on the outside of me so I could still do my thing."

The four-star (0.9542 per 247Sports Composite) pass catcher is still being recruited by schools across the country.

"There's a lot of schools still trying to come, trying to flip me. But I'm good right now holding my pledge right now to Oregon, Coach Adams."

Three schools in particular are giving chase.

"You got Colorado, USC, Washington and it's a lot more."

Anderson likes the spot he's in with the Ducks, but is still listening to what schools have to say.

"It's still early in my commitment so I hear every coach," he told Ducks Digest. "I hear what they have to say, hear their plan for me. I might take a couple of visits but as of right now I'm locked in with Oregon."

The recruiting trail will reopen in March and there are a number of schools he's looking to check out.

"I'm gonna get down to Colorado, I'm gonna head back up to SC of course," Anderson said. "Some schools I wanna check out are Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson."

He still has plenty of time between now and the end of his recruiting process but wants to get college ball started sooner rather than later.

"I wanna sign in December," he said. "I want to be up in Eugene by December. Go practice with the team before the bowl game and then go up with them, be on the sidelines, stuff like that."
