Oklahoma OL Cayden Green Visiting Oregon This Weekend
It's shaping up to be a big weekend of recruiting visits for Dan Lanning and the Ducks.
With the dead period set to begin on Monday, Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman Cayden Green is taking a visit to Oregon this weekend, according to his Instagram story posted Friday morning.
The 6-foot-5, 316-pound offensive lineman entered the transfer portal on Wednesday after spending his freshman season with Brent Venables and the Sooners in Norman. He played 569 total snaps along the offensive line in 2023 and finished the season with a 71.4 pass-block grade, a 49.8 run-block grade and a 53.7 offense grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
Green is a former four-star (0.9552) recruit in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranked him the No. 98 player nationally, the No. 10 offensive tackle and the No. 3 recruit in Missouri.
He played his high school football at Lee's Summit North High School, the same school that produced the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2024 class, five-star Missouri Tigers defensive line commit Williams Nwaneri.
The offensive line is going to look quite a bit different for Oklahoma next season, as the Sooners have seen five offensive linemen either enter the transfer portal or declare for the NFL Draft since the beginning of the month. It's been reported that Green will take a visit to Missouri on Sunday following his trip to Eugene.
Oregon is set to lose at least two players from their starting offensive line heading into the 2024 season with Rimington Trophy winner Jackson Powers-Johnson declaring for the NFL Draft, and long-time starter Steven Jones exhausting his college eligibility.
Torres' Take
I was hearing some recruiting buzz linking Green and Oregon earlier this week, so this visit doesn't come as much of a surprise. There are a couple of connections here that I believe contribute to the appeal for Green.
Like I mentioned earlier, he spent last season blocking for Gabriel, who will now be Oregon's quarterback in 2024. Will Stein headed up one of the best offenses in the country this year and it doesn't look like things will be slowing down.
Second, he's a native of Dan Lanning's home state, Missouri, where the Ducks have only continued to ramp up their recruiting efforts the past two seasons.
And third, Green has probably seen the great work Oregon has done on the offensive line this year under A'lique Terry and understands it's a destination for elite offensive linemen.
I've been hearing that should the Ducks land Green, he'd likely slide in at guard to replace Jones next season and there could be the potential for him to develop into a tackle.
Things move quickly in the transfer portal, so it's a good sign that Oregon was able to get him out to campus for a visit so quickly.
