Oregon Buzz Building for Five-Star Committed Elsewhere

We're coming up on flip season with the early signing period looming in December.

The Oregon Ducks may be gaining steam for a major target in the 2024 recruiting class.

McKinney (Tex.) safety Xavier Filsaime has been committed to the Florida Gators since April, but appears to be crossing his T's and dotting his I's by taking visits to other schools.

The No. 2 ranked safety in the country was in Los Angeles for an unofficial visit to USC when the Trojans played Washington over the weekend. Now, it sounds like he could pop up in Eugene for a visit this weekend.

"I don't think I'm going to take any OVs, but I might go to Oregon this weekend," Filsaime said in an interview with 247's Mike Roach following his USC trip. "I've never seen a game out there and I just want to see what it's about. Me and coach Hampton have a good relationship, so it's only right if I go down there for a game just to check it out."

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety is rated a five-star (0.9852) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. He's ranked the No. 30 player nationally, the No. 2 safety and the No. 8 recruit in Texas.

He'd be a huge addition to an already impressive recruiting visitor list that's littered with verbal commitments expected in town.

The Ducks made Filsaime's final cut prior to his Gators pledge, landing in his top five schools along with the likes of LSU, Georgia, USC and of course Florida.

Oregon has two safeties in the fold already in Aaron Flowers, a four-star out of Forney (Tex.), as well as Kingston Lopa, a 6-foot-5, safety from Sacramento, California.

Dan Lanning is well aware that he's set to lose some of his top safeties in Evan Williams and Steve Stephens IV after this season, so Filsaime's addition would certainly be a welcome one. The Texas product has been to Eugene before, and should he visit this weekend we'll see relationships and continued efforts from the Oregon staff pay dividends.

A flip to the Ducks is far from a sure thing--even if he does visit--but getting him back on campus, even for just an unofficial visit, would be a strong step in the right direction.

Oregon already has two five-star recruits in the fold in Aydin Breland and Elijah Rushing, but they certainly aren't getting complacent with their No. 6 class ranking in 2024. The Ducks coaches are also heavily involved with five-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, who was on campus for the Washington State game last month.
