Oregon Making up Ground With 5-Star DL Aydin Breland
Oregon has been pursuing some big-time defensive linemen in the 2024 recruiting class. Names like Jordan Ross (Alabama), David Stone (Florida), Elijah Rushing (Arizona) and Collin Simmons (Texas) all come to mind.
But the Ducks may not need to go too far for another stud. This past weekend they hosted 2024 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland for an unofficial visit.
"I actually just went up with Brandon (Baker) and Jack (Ressler). I got invited with them," Breland said of why he took the trip. "It's always a great time up in Eugene. It's always a good time up there. I love getting up there and having a good time with everybody."
This time around was different for the five-star defensive lineman.
"The thing about this visit though it was more special, I liked how exclusive it was. I had more one-on-one time with all the coaches and some of the players."
It sounds like the unique approach from the staff was well received and could help set them apart. But one thing is already helping make them serious contenders.
"You don't get that from a lot of schools," he said about the exclusive visit. "With Oregon, the thing that stands out the most, I talk about it all the time, is the genuine family feel you get from Dan Lanning, Tosh Lupoi and Coach Tony Tuioti. They're consistent with the genuine family feel so you know it's real up there."
Breland had a loaded itinerary during his time in Eugene and reflected on some highlights from the trip.
"Definitely the photo shoot. The photo shoot was really fun. I had a great time," he said. "When I talked about getting up there with Jack and Brandon they told me they had something special for us to do and I was confused.
"We get there and it's me and a couple of the other recruits and we're doing a scavenger hunt, but it's not a scavenger hunt. It's kind of like a puzzle, kind of clue thing where they had us get a clue, run around, do the activity and it was like a race to see who could get all 10 stations done first. It was pretty fun."
Breland was one of three 2024 Mater Dei recruits on campus along with wide receiver Jack Ressler and offensive tackle Brandon Baker. It sounds like the trio has talked about teaming up together at Oregon.
"We all think it'd be a great idea if it's in everybody's best interest of mind and best interest of self to go up there, make that decision. But if we all get up there that'd be a problem. That'd be a serious problem."
With another strong trip to Eugene in the books, Breland is turning his attention to official visits, which will start next month.
"As for OVs right now I have Miami scheduled for June 9-11. Georgia scheduled June 16-18 and Oregon the 23rd through the 25th (of June)."
Breland has also reportedly added an official visit to Texas A&M on June 2.
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound trench talent is working from a top 10 that includes all of the aforementioned schools as well as schools like USC and Ohio State.
He plans to make his college commitment at the beginning of the 2023 high school football season.
