Oregon Picks up New Predictions to Land 4-Star EDGE
Oregon just hosted one of its most impressive groups of recruits for the second Junior Day in 2024.
One recruit that appears to be high on Oregon's board this cycle is 2025 Concord (Calif.) De La Salle EDGE Matt Johnson. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defender was on campus over the weekend for what was at least his second trip to Eugene.
Coming out of the visit, Johnson picked up two 247Sports Crystal ball predictions to land at Oregon. One came from Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, while the other came from National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman. Both picks were logged with a level 6 confidence meter.
Johnson has 17 reported scholarship offers that include Oregon, Michigan, USC, Michigan and Notre Dame, just to name a few. He attends De La Salle High School in the East Bay Area, which is the same school that Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi attended.
The Ducks have recruited the Bay Area heavily just about every cycle, signing Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo defensive lineman Jericho Johnson in the 2024 class, and East Palo Alto (Calif.) Menlo-Atherton wide receiver Jurrion Dickey in the 2023 class. Both recruits were Adidas All-American selections.
Oregon has yet to land a defensive commitment in their 2025 recruiting class, which ranks No. 12 nationally and No. 4 in the Big 10 according to the 247Sports rankings. The Ducks had a number of verbal commitments on campus in recent weeks including quarterback Akili Smith Jr. and wide receiver Dallas Wilson.
Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi are recruiting some of the best edge rushers in the country this cycle, and other names to know aside from Johnson include Mater Dei's Nasir Wyatt and Cincinatti (Ohio) Winton Woods standout Justin Hill.
Johnson has yet to release a top lists of schools, but these new projections likely suggest the Ducks are in a strong spot for one of the top players in California.
