Oregon Predicted to Land Colorado Transfer Cornerback Nikko Reed

The Ducks have added one transfer cornerback this offseason and could be poised to add another.

Over the weekend Oregon landed a commitment from USC wide receiver transfer Gary Bryant JrNow, it looks like the Ducks could be closing in on another addition from the transfer portal.

Late Sunday night, former Colorado cornerback Nikko Reed was predicted to commit to Oregon by 247Sports' Greg Biggins

Reed entered the transfer portal on April 15 after spending the previous two seasons playing in Boulder.

During his two years with the Buffaloes he played in 24 games and logged 13 starts. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound defensive back recorded 51 total tackles, 36 solo tackles, 3 interceptions and 11 pass breakups.

Perhaps more importantly, he played under Oregon cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin during the 2021 season prior to him joining Dan Lanning's staff in Eugene. Martin has already leveraged the transfer portal with the Ducks, landing former Colorado cornerback Christian Gonzalez prior to the 2022 season and developing him into a first-round NFL Draft pick.

Reed was rated a three-star (0.8226) recruit by the 247Sports Composite coming out of Hayward (Calif.) Moreau Catholic High School in the class of 2021.

Torres' Take

Does Oregon need another cornerback? Maybe it's not a pressing need, but we know the coaching staff would like to add another piece to the group after offering and ultimately missing out on Louisiana Lafayette transfer Trey Amos, who committed to Alabama.

Oregon has a number of talented cornerbacks returning from the 2022 season, most notably Dontae ManningTrikweze Bridges and Jahlil Florence. None of them matched Gonzalez's skill and production, so the staff added Khyree Jackson from Alabama and signed five cornerbacks in the 2023 recruiting class.

Cole Martin, Daylen Austin and Rodrick Pleasant raise the floor of the group and Martin was a standout performer in the spring game.

While I feel good about where the depth stands right now, adding more experience, production, and a player Martin is familiar with in Reed would be a big bonus and add even more depth.
