Oregon Set to Host Nation's No. 1 Junior College Prospect

Demetrice Martin and the Ducks are pursuing the best of the best in the secondary.

The big time visitors just keep lining up for Oregon this summer, but they extend past top high school recruits.

College of San Mateo cornerback Sione Laulea, the nation's No. 1 junior college prospect in the 2024 class, will take an official visit to Oregon on June 23, he told Ducks Digest on Thursday.

Laulu is listed at 6'4", 185 pounds and is rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports. He's ranked the No. 1 overall junior college recruit in the country and has compiled 18 scholarship offers.

Prior to attending the College of San Mateo, he attended San Mateo (Calif.) Junipero Serra High School and graduated in the class of 2022.

Laulu's June 23 trip to Eugene will be his final official visit before making his college decision. Before he makes it out to the Pacific Northwest he'll head to Miami for an official visit with Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes. His College of San Mateo teammate, defensive back Demetrius Freeney Jr., committed to Miami on Thursday.

Laulu has also taken recent trips to Penn State and Utah.

Torres' Take

Laulu is a recruit that I could see climbing up Oregon's big board after top cornerback target Dakoda Fields committed to USC earlier this week and Mater Dei cornerback Zabien Brown reportedly cancelled his upcoming trip to Oregon and eliminated the Ducks from his recruitment.

The Ducks have had a lot of success recruiting the College of San Mateo in recent years, signing former players like safety Bennett Williams and offensive tackle George Moore.

Demetrice Martin and the Ducks are also pursuing names like Chris Johnson II, Kobe Black and Selman Bridges at cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class. They have one verbal commitment from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy standout Ify Obidegwu, who pledged to the Ducks in May.
