Summer Visits Set for 5-Star Edge Rusher Colin Simmons

Simons is one of Oregon's top defensive targets in the 2024 class.
In this story:

Oregon is pursuing some elite talent along the line of scrimmage. One of their top targets is 2024 Duncanville (Tex.) edge rusher Colin Simons.

When he didn't make it out for the spring game, some Duck fans wondered if they'd missed their shot with the Lone Star standout.

But that doesn't appear to be the case, as he's set to return to Eugene in just a few weeks.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound pass rusher recently set his visit schedule for the summer, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Simmons will star the month in Coral Gables with an official visit to Miami. Then he'll head to SEC country for for an official visit with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The middle of the month will see him land in Eugene for a multi-day unofficial visit with Oregon June 20 through June 22. Other trips on the schedule are official visits to the in-state Texas Longhorns and the Florida Gators, as well as an unofficial visit with Jimbo Fisher's Aggies.

Simmons is rated a five-star (0.9965) recruit by the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 4 player in the country, the No. 1 edge rusher and the No. 1 player in Texas.

When it comes to edge rushers in the 2024 class, Oregon is off to a solid start with a verbal commitment from Yuma (Ariz.) Catholic's Jaxson Jones. After Jones, the Ducks are taking their shot at the biggest names in the country including Elijah Rushing, Jordan Ross, Dylan Stewart and Zina Umeozulu.

Simons has not set a top group of schools and does not have a commitment date.

Torres' Take

You really can't find a bigger name at edge rusher in the 2024 class than Simmons, and that's evidenced by his 45 reported scholarship offers.

Even with trips scheduled to a plethora of storied programs, sources I've spoken with tell me that Oregon, LSU and Texas are the main teams to watch in this race. Remember how I said some fans thought Oregon was out of the running?

Well that's not the case, as the Ducks are very much alive in this race. LSU has been the team with the most sustained buzz and Texas will always battle tooth and nail to hang on to in-state talent. But Texas is fundamental to where Dan Lanning wants to take this program and the staff he's assembled has ample ties into the state that will continue to keep Oregon involved with Texas talent.

This is going to be a tough battle and I don't think Oregon leads, but they're very much still alive.
