Torres' Take: The Latest in Oregon Football Recruiting October 19
Oregon recruiting is at a crucial part of the year. They have one of the best classes in the country for the 2024 cycle, but they want to take it up a notch.
There's a lot of guys they've recruited really hard that are uncommitted, and even some recruits they've stayed on that are committed to other schools. That's there's a saying that flip season is coming.
Oregon is taking care of business on the field for the most part, save the loss to Washington, and still having a good season.
Let's get into it.
Elijah Rushing
The more I talk to people about this one it seems like a matter of when not if. That's not to say this is a lock, I feel like we can't say that about any recruitment.
Just see Devon Williams in the 2018 class. He committed to USC when everyone thought he was going to Oregon. But the Ducks stayed on him the entire time he was committed to Arizona and that contact has remained constant since he reopened his recruitment.
I still feel very good about their chances, I think Duck fans just need to be patient.
A Top-Five Recruiting Class is Still in Play for Oregon in 2024
Nate Frazier
Based on some of the recent conversations that I've had, the staff in Eugene isn't convinced that this recruitment is over. Yes Frazier pledged to Georgia in the summer, but that doesn't mean Oregon has shied away.
They already have Da'Jaun 'Dink' Riggs committed and Noah Whittington looks like he'll return, but Frazier is a special type of player. You figure out a way to make the numbers work for him.
I've been banging the drum that he's Locklyn's top target in the 2024 class and that hasn't changed in the three months he's been committed to Athens. I wouldn't be surprised if other programs were also pushing for him but you'd be hard pressed to find a school with a better shot than Oregon.
Xavier Filsaime
Remember this name? Filsaime is one of the best defensive backs in the 2024 class and he's currently committed to Florida.
You may not think the Ducks need more safeties, they already have two committed in Aaron Flowers and Kingston Lopa, but you make room for five-stars. There seems to be a good amount of smoke that suggests Oregon has stayed in the picture here since he committed to the Gators in April.
We know the Ducks have strong ties to the state of Texas and Florida isn't exactly having a strong season. They looked really bad in their losses to Utah and Kentucky and I think that's helped keep the window open for Oregon.
I don't have any intel that suggests he's going to pop up on campus any time soon, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he did. It ain't over until the ink is dried on signing day.
Solomon Williams
Williams is one of the biggest names that's expected on campus this weekend alongside five-star recruit and fellow Florida native DJ Pickett.
He has the Ducks inside his top five schools and when you look at Oregon's defensive line haul you ask yourself, do they have the room? Especially if they land Rushing, that's where things could get really interesting. Williams is a special player the Ducks would love to have.
I think Oregon, like every other school in the country, still has some flexibility given the time between now and the early signing period. That said, I expect them to do all they can this weekend to try and solidify themselves as the leaders in his recruitment.
Solomon Willams Making Important Return Visit to Oregon
Roger Saleapaga
This is another guy I really like Oregon for. The defensive haul has outshined the offense this cycle but I think Saleapaga may have something to say about that.
He doesn't have a concrete commitment date set but I believe the Ducks are the clear cut leaders in his recruitment. So continue to monitor him.
Jordan Seaton/Eddy Pierre-Louis
I'm going to combine these guys because I think they're the clear focus for A'lique Terry to close out the 2024 class. I like the guys Oregon has committed this cycle, but adding either one of these guys would help take this class to a new level in the trenches.
The defensive line talent has been tremendous and I think the staff is still looking for an elite name to complement JacQawn McRoy, who will be a challenge to hold onto until signing.
They'll get their shot at Seaton with an official visit this weekend. I don't put much weight into the whole 'dream school' story. I've just heard it too many times and seen it not pan out.
That's not to say they can't get it done, I just think there's a long way to go here and he'll be a tough pull over the likes of Alabama and Florida. I've been hearing it's looking like EPL will visit Oregon some time next month.
