Will Oregon Seal the Deal With QB Luke Moga?

The talented Arizona passer was scheduled to unveil a commitment next week.

One of Oregon's top quarterback targets in the 2024 class is almost ready to come off the board.

Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga had set a commitment date of Friday April 28, just the day before Oregon's spring game.

After visiting Eugene in January, he earned an offer from the Ducks and proceeded to go on a cross-country tour taking visits to Miami, BYU and Arizona State among others.

It looks like he's visiting Eugene this weekend, and with all the buzz linking Moga and the Ducks, many view them as the favorite to land his pledge, especially given the timing.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound passer has spoken very highly of the Ducks since they entered his recruitment.

"They want to win and they want to do it with the best players in the country from all over no matter what," Moga told Ducks Digest in an interview. "And they want to do it with great people on their staff too.

After setting a commitment date of April 28, it appeared he was narrowing his suitors to six, with Oregon, BYU, Arizona State, Miami, Michigan State and TCU making the cut.

However, for whatever it's worth, that post no longer shows up on either his Twitter or Instagram profile. The weekend trip to Eugene looked like a perfect opportunity for Oregon to seal the deal in his commitment, but that may no longer be the case.

On Sunday morning, 2024 Baltimore (MD.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren announced that he would be returning to Eugene for Oregon's spring game. Reading between the lines, it seems unlikely that Moga would commit with another top target visiting just the next day.

Van Buren placed Oregon in his top three schools earlier this week along with Penn State and Maryland following a trip to Eugene last weekend. As I write this I no longer view the Ducks as the team to beat for Moga. And that may not be a bad thing.

It seems like BYU is the other school generating a lot of buzz, but they're also recruiting in-state passer Isaac Wilson in the 2024 class. Does he want to be a part of a two quarterback class? Does BYU want two quarterbacks?

These are all relevant questions. Miami also might be looking for some more quarterbacks this cycle after losing out on the Jaden Rashada sweepstakes last year. I've heard some buzz that Moga could take an official visit to Coral Gables.

Back to Van Buren, his return trip to Eugene on such short notice looks like it may indicate that he's the guy for Oregon. Moga is a fantastic athlete, running a 10.7 100 meters earlier this week, but to me Van Buren seems like the more polished passer.

If Van Buren is indeed the guy the Ducks are prioritizing, it could support my thinking that they want to sign one high school quarterback and bring in one from the transfer portal.

We'll see if Moga announces anything about pushing back his decision after Sunday's developments. But to me, it looks like the Ducks are all-in on Van Buren.
