Penn State's Andrew Funk Joins Jalen Pickett in Denver
Andrew Funk, the former Penn State guard who led the Big Ten in 3-point shooting last season, has signed an NBA Summer League contract with the Denver Nuggets, joining former teammate Jalen Pickett with the defending NBA champions. Denver selected Pickett with the 32nd overall pick in the NBA Draft, making him the highest-drafted Penn State player since 1965.
Funk was the Big Ten's most successful 3-point shooter last season, leading the conference in 3-pointers per game (3.03) and shooting percentage (41.2 percent). He made 112 3-pointers, ranking second in Penn State history, and shot a career-high 44.4 percent from the field. Funk played his most memorable game in the NCAA Tournament, setting program records for tournament points (27) and 3-pointers (8) in the Lions' 76-59 win over Texas A&M.
Funk averaged 12.5 points per game and recorded 25 double-digit scoring games. At Bucknell, where he played four seasons, and Penn State, Funk scored a career-total of 1,693 points, with 302 3-pointers. He was named honorable mention All-Big Ten last season.
By signing an NBA Summer League deal, Funk became the fourth former Nittany Lion to be active in the league. That list includes Lamar Stevens in Cleveland, along with Pickett and Seth Lundy, who were selected in the 2023 NBA Draft. Atlanta selected Lundy in the second round. The draft marks the first in Penn State history in which two former Lions were selected.
