Jaylen Harvey, 4-Star Prospect From Maryland, Commits to Penn State
After Penn State's 2025 recruiting class took center stage recently, the 2024 class returned to the spotlight Monday. Jaylen Harvey, a 4-star prospect from Maryland, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions' 2024 class, joining high school teammate Xavier Gilliam in the group. Harvey made his commitment to the Nittany Lions during a ceremony at Quince Orchard High School in Maryland.
Harvey, a 4-star defensive end, chose Penn State from a final three that included USC and Maryland. Harvey also had scholarship offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee among many others. The 6-3, 250-pound Harvey ranks among the top 30 edge rushers nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite, and as the No. 13 player in Maryland. Last season Harvey won defensive player-of-the-year honors in Montgomery County Class 4A and earned first-team all-state honors after recording 15 tackles for loss and five sacks. He helped Quince Orchard to its second straight Class 4A state title.
Penn State is familiar with edge rushers from Quince Orchard, having one in the class already. Xavier Gilliam, a 3-star prospect at defensive end, transferred to Quince Orchard for his senior season and lines on the same defense with Harvey. And Chop Robinson, the Lions' current all-Big Ten defensive end, is a Quince Orchard graduate who helped the program to a 25-2 record in 2018-19.
Harvey is the 25th player in Penn State's 2024 recruiting class and first to commit since July. The Lions' 2025 class has been busier of late, receiving three commitments since the White Out game in September.
Penn State's 2024 recruiting class ranked 12th nationally before Harvey's commitment, according to the 247Sports Composite.
