Penn State capped a prosperous month of recruiting Friday with a commitment from Washington, D.C., defensive lineman De'Andre Cook, who joined the Lions' 2024 recruiting class. Cook announced his decision on social media, becoming the 21st player in Penn State's 2024 class and the seventh to commit during the busy June recruiting period.

Cook, a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports, chose Penn State over a final list that included Oklahoma, Boston College, North Carolina and Rutgers. The 6-4, 260-pound Cook, who plays for Friendship Collegiate Academy, visited Penn State in June. He is among the top-ranked players in D.C., according to ESPN and 247Sports, and a rising talent at defensive end. Cook is the second edge rusher in Penn State's 2024 class, joining Maryland's Xavier Gilliam.

After hosting about 50 prospects for official visits in June, Penn State enters the July commitment season with a rapidly growing class. The Lions received one-third of their commitments in June and look to build out the remainder of the class primarily before the 2023 season begins.

Among the prospects on Penn State's radar are Pennsylvania defensive lineman David Palepale (committing July 1), Maryland edge rusher Jaylen Harvey (committing July 4), Michigan receiver Nick Marsh (committing July 8) and Pennsylvania defensive lineman Mylachi Williams (committing July 8).

Prior to Cook's commitment, Penn State's 2024 recruiting class ranked sixth nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite.
