Two Penn State Receiving Legends Join Forces in Washington

Bobby Engram is the Commanders' new receivers coach. He'll mentor former Lion Jahan Dotson.

Two of Penn State's most prolific receivers are now working together with the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders named Bobby Engram as their new wide receivers coach, bringing aboard the Lions' career leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. Engram will mentor second-year receiver Jahan Dotson, who ranks fourth in career yardage and is tied for second in career touchdowns at Penn State.

Engram returns to the NFL after spending last season as offensive coordinator at Wisconsin. Prior to that, Engram coached in the NFL for nine seasons, eight of those with the Baltimore Ravens. Engram began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 and also spent two seasons as the receivers coach at Pitt.

Engram remains the only Penn State receiver with more than 3,000 career receiving yards; he caught 167 passes for 3,026 yards from 1991-95. Engram also holds the Penn State record for career receiving touchdowns (31). Engram was a first-team All-American in 1994, when he became the first Penn State receiver to record a 1,000-yard season.

With the Commanders, Engram will have the opportunity to coach another Penn State receiving legend. Dotson ranks second in career receptions (183) and fourth in receiving yards (2,842). In 2021, Dotson became just the second Penn State receiver to record 90 catches in a season and set the program's single-game record for receiving yards (242 vs. Maryland).

Engram (13 in 1993) and Dotson (12 in 2021) rank 1-2 at Penn State in single-season touchdown receptions. Engram also caught 11 in 1995.

Dotson was a first-round pick of the Commanders last year. Chicago selected Engram in the second round of the 1996 draft. Engram played 14 NFL seasons, amassing 7,751 receiving yards.
