Penn State Sets Dates for 2024 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials

The next U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team will be determined at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Penn State and USA Wrestling have set the dates for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials, which Penn State will host after the COVID reschedulings of 2021 and '21. The trials are scheduled for April 19-20 at the Bryce Jordan Center, where the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team will be determined for the 2024 Paris Games.

Ticket information will be announced May 9. The Bryce Jordan Center will host wrestlers in 18 weight classes across three disciplines: men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. The best-of-three championship series will be held Saturday to determine the U.S. team.

Penn State was scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials, which were canceled because of COVID. USA Wrestling relocated the trials to Fort Worth, Texas, in 2021 after Penn State said it could not host for several factors, including safety guidelines related to COVID.

The Nittany Lion Wrestling Club will have strong representation at the trials. In 2021, NLWC star David Taylor became Penn State's first Olympic gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. Taylor also is a two-time world champ and the top-ranked U.S. wrestler at 86 kg. Other NLWC stars to watch are Kyle Snyder, Zain Retherford, Thomas Gilman and Jason Nolf. In addition, Penn State three-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci seeks to make the 2024 U.S. Olympic freestyle team.

Penn State will host the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials for the first time. The Bryce Jordan Center hosted the NCAA Wrestling Championships in 1999 and is the site of the eight highest indoor crowds for NCAA wrestling matches. Penn State hosted an NCAA record 15,998 fans twice for duals against Iowa, including the most recent match in January. Those crowds were the largest for any Penn State home sporting event not held at Beaver Stadium.
