PITTSBURGH -- ESPN's Joe Lunardi has released a new edition of his projected NCAA Tournament bracket and he has the Pitt Panthers in better standing than they were over the weekend.

Lunardi now has the Panthers as the nine seed in the East Region, up from the 10 seed he had them pegged after falling at Virginia Tech last weekend. Pitt would play Kentucky in the first round at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. If Pitt wins, they'd have to face either Purdue or one of 16 seeds Howard and Morehead State, who are slated to meet at the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.

ACC rival Duke is the East's six seed in this projection. Old Big East rivals UConn and West Virginia would meet in the first round as the five and 12 seeds, respectively. That would set up a potential Big East reunion at Madison Square Garden - where those three teams competed in classic conference tournament battles back in the day - in the Sweet 16 if two of those teams can pull a couple of upsets.
