Former Pitt PG Hired at Old Dominion
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers point guard James Robinson is onto the next stage of his coaching career after picking up a new job.
Robinson, one of the better Pitt guards in recent history, has joined Old Dominion's staff as an assistant coach, the program announced this week.
Robinson spent the last two years as an assistant at Delaware, the first stop of his coaching career.
"James is one of the best point guards in the last decade of college basketball, He has always excelled because of his basketball IQ," Monarchs head coach Mike Jones said. "His ability as a player development coach will immediately connect him with our roster. Our guards in particular will benefit from Coach Robinson's experience and natural ability to connect with them. A coaching superstar in the making and we are lucky to have him."
After spending four years running point for Jamie Dixon's Panthers, Robinson enjoyed a half dozen years playing overseas. He spent time and played well for teams in Bosnia, Germany and Israel.
Robinson, a blue-chip recruit coming out of Dematha High School not far outside of Washington, D.C., started 135 of the 136 games he played, averaging 8.2 points and 4.4 assists to just 1.3 turnovers per contest. His 604 career assists rank fifth in Pitt history.
