PITTSBURGH -- Zack Austin was the first player the Pitt Panthers pursued when the transfer portal opened this offseason and he was the first to commit to the program this offseason. Now he's officially a Panther.

Pitt introduced Austin and former Rhode Island Ram Ismael Leggett, the two transfer additions the Panthers have made so far this offseason, this week.

“Zack is a versatile and productive forward with the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor,” Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said. “He is an outstanding athlete with strong rebounding and defensive instincts along with a solid shooting stroke out beyond the three-point line. We believe Zack with be a great fit in our system and we look forward to working with him as he continues to grow and develop.”

Austin, an All-Big South honorable mention in 2023, averaged 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 31 games - 26 of which were starts - for the High Point Panthers last season. The year before, he was named Big South Freshman of the Year and earned a conference record eight Freshman of the Week awards. He was also the only player in college basketball to make 60 3-pointers and block 60 shots last season.

Austin was the first transfer to give a verbal commitment to Pitt. He joins Leggett in the currently two-man-strong transfer class. They join four-star high school recruits Jaland Lowe and Carlton Carrington and three-star commit Marlon Barnes in the complete 2023 recruiting class.
